RECESSION?

Trump said yesterday that he couldn’t rule out the possibility of a recession this year and today Wall Street lost its mind. Although I think the reason is uncertainty over the effects tariffs will have on the economy. Which by the way is in keeping with my view that the markets are just legalized gambling. People just make guesses about what might happen.

But that’s not the reason for this rant. I heard something on the Will Cain Show today while I was driving that I haven’t seen anywhere else and it makes perfect sense and I should have thought about it but was too busy thinking about tariffs also. Listen GDP includes government spending as well as private sector spending. Thus with DOGE and Trump removing employees and cutting contracts and grants this will shrink GDP in the near term until all the new manufacturing comes on line and the private sector picks up the slack left by the government. It makes sense and has nothing to do with tariffs.

Just a thought.

OBSERVATION

Back in the early sixties it was a given that education in the South was subpar to the rest of the country. And maybe it was true, but as I ranted about several times previously I was considered to be inferior coming from Florida to Anchorage and that was totally false. I won’t repeat the facts. (And as an aside, I was maybe the first boy to be put in the girls locker room. When I went to my first gym class in Anchorage. Apparently they confused Dennis with Denise and I got assigned to girls PE.) That’s not the purpose of this rant. The purpose is that tonight on the Fox Weekend show when the issue came up of where you should send your kids to get a real education, everyone said go south. I believe that Louisiana is now the leading state in education in the country. And I would certainly send my kids to a school in Florida or Alabama or Louisiana or Mississippi rather than anywhere in the north or west. They will be taught the 3 R’s not CRT or 1619 or DEI.

I used to think that a bright kid could overcome poor educations because they were bright enough to see through it. However, I don’t think that they can overcome the indoctrination of the leftist teacher unions. I was bored but at least learned real things. Today the brightest aren’t even taught real things. We are sacrificing a generation of intelligent minds to woke nonsense. This has to end. We need our best and brightest to actually be fully educated and to use that education to improve our country. And yes we have many brilliant computer individuals but they learned on their own from the internet. Not from our schools!

The northern and western states have denigrated our education system and if you’re there either send your kids to a private school or move.

SCOTUS

Before I get to the point of this rant, let me comment on last night’s speech. It was incredible but I didn’t see the need to comment. You could see anything I could possibly say everywhere today. The Dems totally crashed. Maybe what I can add is that I think last night was the death knell of the Dem party. They have nothing and represent nothing that the vast majority of this country wants.

Now for all of you who think the Supremes decision today was a serious setback for Trump, it wasn’t. I’m not going to get into the weeds because it would be meaningless to most if not all of you. Suffice it to say that it was a procedural decision. It was not a decision on the merits of Trump’s shutting down USAID. All it did was send it back to the district court with very specific instructions that he would have to consider every proposed payment in light of who would actually be irreparably harmed by paying or not paying. And I’m not sure if you know, but the money at issue is for work that has allegedly already been performed.

And now DOJ can file for a writ of mandamus for the Supremes to take the case on the merits and put an end to the nonsense. Alito burned them in his dissent and I’m sure that either Roberts or Barret will come to their senses and stop the nonsense of one unelected judge taking over the Executive Branch.

And another thing I saw today was that another leftist judge ordered the reinstatement of probationary employees. As I said before, these are people who can be fired for any or no reason except for some prohibited reason like race and that was not at issue in the case. They just were cutting the size of the government period.

Congress needs to pass legislation that limits the jurisdiction of district court judges and if they don’t then the Supremes have to do it and Alito strongly indicated that he was on board.

TRUMP 2.0

The real difference between his first term and now is that not only does he now understand the swamp and recognize his true allies ( and his cabinet is the best in my lifetime) but his ego is now such that he doesn’t feel the need to be the only voice in the room. Look he has welcomed Elon in to the cabinet meeting and the Oval Office and let him speak. He’s not worried about having to try to be the only big dog in the room.

He had no problem with Vance calling out Z in the press conference. I can’t imagine him having let Pence do that or Pence even thinking that he could. He’s comfortable in his own skin and doesn’t feel the need try to constantly be the center of attention. I like it.

LINDSEY AND TUCKER

As I said last week nobody would have my take on Lindsey supporting Trump and of course no one did, but Tucker had a take that was in line with my view that Lindsey must be profiting from the war machine. He thinks Lindsey is trying to scapegoat Z because he knows that DOGE and the feds are going to actually do an audit of where all the graft in Ukraine is going.

ZELENSKYY

One of you asked if I was going to comment on today’s debacle in the White House and I said probably but now I’ll say certainly. Z came in thinking that he could keep treating us as his personal ATM and it would be business as usual. A terrible mistake given that he was no longer dealing with Magoo. And he didn’t bother to wear a suit. His homage to the Fidel Castro costume is wearing very thin. He’s not some general or militia leader. In fact I looked it up and he never even served in the Ukraine military. So quit playing soldier.

And he was already behind the eight ball because as JD pointed out, Z campaigned for Kamala a month before the election because he knew that the gravy train would continue indefinitely. You lost and need to recognize that things changed and your arrogance needs to calm down. You blew it because you are way in over your head and you need to understand that.

Trump is not going to join you in a war against Russia. Forget it. Trump is looking out for us and is not going to sublimate our interests for yours.

Now here is one thing that you won’t hear anywhere else and I mentioned it to a couple of you as it was happening. Lindsey Graham is being touted as some kind of hero for supporting Trump and Vance. And I admit that at first glance it pleasantly surprised me as well, but then my twisted mind kicked in. I have never been particularly fond of him because you can never trust him except in one area where you can be certain of his vote and that is for spending our money on any war. I think someone needs to follow the money from the military industrial complex to him.

Now here’s my twisted assessment of what he actually did, although I may be giving him more intelligence than I should, but by praising Trump he can maybe gain some cred with MAGA, but he also knows it will mean that the war goes on and you can count on him continuing to vote for more money to Ukraine. So he can have his cake and eat it too. Just my twisted musings.

LEGAL UPDATE

Several cases have come up recently that are foreshadowing what’s to come for a return to the constitution. First I believe it was yesterday a case was heard by the Supremes dealing with the burdens in a discrimination case. I don’t recall the case name but it was a case asserting that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 applies equally to majorities and minorities. In 1973 the Supremes decided McDonald Douglas v Green and stated that to make out a prima facie case of discrimination you had to show that there was an opening and you applied and you were qualified and you were rejected and they kept looking for other people for the job.

Subsequently lower courts have invented a further requirement if you’re white or straight etc., in the majority, that you had to provide more evidence to require the defendant to proffer the reason you were rejected. This case challenges that requirement that majority candidates have to prove more than minority candidates under the law. The Supremes with the possible exception of KBJ during the argument basically said there is nothing in the statute that would even remotely require different standards depending on your status.

And yesterday I believe that Chief Justice Roberts stopped a judge who required that the Trump administration disburse $2 billion dollars in ’aide’ by midnight last night. It appears that even Roberts is becoming fed up with district court judges trying to insert their opinions for how the president should run the executive branch. They have no business or authority to do that and I predict that when these cases get to the Supremes that they will seriously restrict the power of district court judges. And also as I have said previously, Congress has the authority to limit the jurisdiction of district courts and Senator Mike Lee is introducing legislation to do that.

And now just tonight some Clinton judge in California issued an injunction to prevent OPM from firing probationary employees saying that there is no where in law that gives OPM to fire employees in other departments. The problem for this idiot is that OPM didn’t fire anyone outside OPM. It advised that each agency evaluate these employees and fire who they decide to. Just ignore this decision and tell this idiot that OPM didn’t fire them, their agencies did and they have absolute authority to do so for any or no reason. In the probationary period you are an at will employee.

MIND BLOWING

I don’t know about you but I continue to be amazed about just how corrupt our federal government is. Every day DOGE exposes more and more corruption and fraud and bloat. I have previously ranted about it with respect to the bloated staffing in the government based on my experience in the swamp. And I have pointed out bloated contracts that I witnessed.

And I’m sure you know about $800 hammers and $1000 toilets and yesterday I saw a whistleblower who had been in the Navy and I believe in submarine service and he was named. And he said that they were paying $10,000 a piece for supposedly ‘rigidified’ HDMI cables that could be bought at Best Buy for $20 or $30.

But the shear scope of the waste continues to blow my mind. And not unsurprisingly in many cases the waste finds its way to Dem donors or family members or former Dem politicians.

I may be naive. I know and have said before that the government doesn’t do anything well but I had no idea just how extensive the corruption and fraud is. I think now you could probably cut pretty much every agency’s budget and staff in half and we wouldn’t notice.

CORRECTION

I said Leo Terrell was in charge of the Civil Rights Division in DOJ. He’s actually the Senior Counsel in that division and principally responsible for heading up a task force looking into prosecuting antisemitism.

Harmeet Dhillon is actually the head of that division and I should have remembered because I wrote about it previously. And she is awesome and fearsome and Maine is toast.
