I was hoping to see some in depth fact checking but didn’t really see much so I’ll go with what I know. First I do want to comment on Magoo’s fixation on the 1994 assault weapon ban. I had heard that it really didn’t do much but he says otherwise. And like most things the devil is in the details.. All you need to know is that 80% of gun deaths during the timeframe were from handguns and so it’s difficult to assess how effective the law was.

I have previously ranted on his nonsense that only gun manufacturers have immunity from lawsuits. It’s totally false. As you are no doubt aware the Covid vaccine manufacturers have absolute immunity no matter have dangerous their placebo shots are, even if they kill you. Likewise you can’t sue the maker of the suv that was used in Waukesha.

You can sue the gun maker if due to a defect it blows up in your face and the automaker if there product is defective and causes you an injury. But guess what, you can’t sue Pfizer even if you can prove that they knew it was dangerous and ineffective and likely to cause you grave bodily harm.

His high capacity magazine nonsense was just that. So what’s the big deal if a psycho has to bring ten magazines instead of five? As most of you know, it takes maybe two or three seconds to switch clips. So this is just an irrelevant talking point that is meaningless. Likewise his emphasis on semi-automatic weapons is nonsense. Almost all civilian guns are semi-automatic and none are automatic. All semi-automatic means is that when you fire a shot the next bullet is automatically chambered but you still have to pull the trigger again to fire it.

And lastly, I was confused when Magoo claimed that more school kids died from guns than cops and soldiers combined. I thought that was nonsense since I have ranted about this before but unfortunately that was in the wake of Parkland and was at the end of my first series of rants which got erased and don’t exist anymore. However, I checked and I remembered correctly. Parkland was the last mass school shooting before Uvalde and I think there were 17 killed in each. Parkland was four years ago so that works out to just over 8 a year.

So today I pulled up a transcript of Magoo’s speech and what he really said was that more school age children were killed by guns than cops and soldiers combined. That’s a whole different ball game. That counts all the kids killed by drive bys and gang wars etc. it has nothing to do with schools but age.
