I watched and read several things today that shed some light on just how deadly this virus is. Now one of the things that you need to understand is that when you hear that there’s approximately a two percent mortality rate for this virus is that is based on the mortality rate in known confirmed cases. However there are quite likely many times more cases that will never be confirmed. Remember that many people who get the virus will have no symptoms and many more will think they have a cold or the flu and never get tested. Therefore, the real mortality rate is more likely a fraction of one percent.

Now I was listening to Rush today on way to Walmart and he was making fun of Brian Williams for his inability to do simple math. Last night Williams said that instead of spending $500 million on his failed campaign he could have given the 327 million citizens in this country one million dollars each. Clearly he is not a mathematical genius. Following making fun of Williams and talking about the info above, Rush started talking about the two percent mortality rate and then said that more than 50% of infected people recover and I yelled at the radio for Rush to shut up because he was embarrassing himself.

Listen you can’t make fun of someone for failing to do the math and then fail to do the math. If the mortality rate for this virus is two percent, and based on what’s at the beginning of this rant it’s probably much less, but assuming it is two percent, by definition the recovery rate is 98%. I am sure that he will get called out on social media for his stupidity.
